Rhythmic displacement is particularly prevalent in the Jazz/fusion worlds – check out any Greg Howe solo - but is also apparent in more straight ahead shed players than you might initially think. Paul Gilbert is a well-known exponent of utilising rhythmic displacement in his playing: check out ‘Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The electric Drill Song)’ for a shredtastic example of a 5+5+6 lick. Richie Kotzen, Guthrie Govan, Tony Macalpine and the like all have many rhythmic displacement patterns that they utilise to great effect.
